Electric Room Lights Up Twin Cities Auto Show

The Electric Room is back for the 2017 Twin Cities Auto Show, and this year it’s bigger and better than ever. The Electric Room, sponsored by Great River Energy, features the latest technology in electric and hybrid vehicles. This is a one-of-a-kind exhibit not seen in other national touring auto shows. Visitors have the opportunity to see a variety of electric vehicles, including the only Chevy Bolt on exhibit in the upper Midwest.

Want to know where to plug in an electric vehicle? Attendees can find the public charging stations nearest to their home or work by using the PlugShare map kiosk. Local electric vehicle owners and project partners volunteer their time during the eight-day event at the Minneapolis Convention Center to explain the environmental, energy security and economic benefits of electric vehicles. They also can set the record straight on common misconceptions about plug-in vehicles.

Revolt, a first-of-its kind program that allows Great River Energy cooperative members to upgrade the electricity used to fuel their vehicles to wind energy at no additional cost, is one of the highlights of the Electric Room. While renewable sources are already part of Great River Energy’s power mix, the Revolt program provides EV owners with a more direct connection between wind energy and their vehicles.

MN Plug-in Vehicle Owners, a local group of EV owners and enthusiasts, will be at the Electric Room to answer questions and provide additional information. There are three displays showing how to charge their electric vehicle including:

  1. DC fast charging station for public sites,
  2. Level 2 charging (provided by Clipper Creek) for public and home sites,
  3. Level 1 charging, which shows visitors just how easy and inexpensive it is to charge at home or work, where 97 percent of electric vehicle charging occurs.

The Electric Room also has a great literature table and video screen, with a variety of electric vehicle and equipment advertising and educational clips.

Vehicles included in the Electric Room include:

  • Audi A3 e-tron
  • Chevrolet Bolt
  • 1st gen Chevrolet Volt
  • 2nd gen Chevrolet Volt
